Light Won't Turn on After Replacing old Ceiling Rose With new one

I'm after a bit of help please, which I'm sure is straightforward but isn't going my way!
I've attempted to replace 2 ceiling roses in my hallway which were old and tatty. Both turn on simultaneously from the same 2 switches.
The first was straightforward, had a live and a neutral (black and red) which fitted fine into the new class 2 rose and pendant.
The second had three wires. A red and black from one cable and a red (with blue tape on) which came from a second cable and piggy backed the neutral.
When I've tried to replicate this in the new rose, this light won't turn on. When I've switched it back to the old rose,as it was, works fine. Any help much appreciated. Where should I place the cables in the new pendant to get it to work??
