I want to add some led spotlights under the eves of my house for effect. I have an existing security light with a built in sensor. My question is, Could I tap into the existing fitting, so that the sensor could also power the LED's, or should I scrap the exiting fitting and replace it with a standard fitting controlled by a stand alone sensor. If so could you recommend a sensor that will run both security light and LED's. but only turn on when motion is detected during night time.

If your existing light has a "Built in sensor" how can you "tap into it" if its built in? By most accounts anything that is built in is just that, integral to what it is built into leaving no other option.

You would be better off with your 2nd suggestion of removing your existing light and installing a stand alone sensor and a standalone light as well as the lights you wish to install in the eves.

Most standalone sensors will do just what you want, there are lots available, but some consider aesthetics important so I will leave the choice of sensor to you. (They are available from all good electrical outlets and some DIY stores.)
