Swapping 221mm Lamp for LED-not Working

Dear all
I just swapped a 221mm lamp in one of my fittings under the kitchen cabinet, for an LED equivalent. The LED fits in OK but only lights if I press the lamp up against the fitting. I thought maybe I wasn't getting a good connection between the ends of the LED and the springs in the fitting so I put some scrunched up aluminium foil in each end, over the springs and got the same result. The lamp only lights if I press it fairly hard up against the fitting. I've measured the length and diameter of the old lamp and compared it with the LED and they are practically the same. I've attached pictures of the lamps and fitting.
Can anyone suggest why this is happening?
Thank you for any help
Stewart

Anything that is not designed for the task can easily become a danger or fire risk and as such should never be used. Aluminium foil in your case. (Yes,even for "testing" )

You have also said that the lamps are NOT identical in measurements, if you can not adjust the light fitting correctly then do not use the lamps you have, seek another lamp, one that is the same as what you have.
