I've taken down a light fitting and from the ceiling is a brown blue and earth wire. These go directly down to the bulb, I've found a new light fitting with 3 terminal blocks live neutral and earth, can these just be fitted to the existing cable from the ceiling.

Cables go to a lamp holder not the lamp (Other wise you could not replace the lamp)

So long as you connect the cables to the correct terminals, I can not see a problem.
