plug sockets in the kitchen

Hi. I know there are regulations covering the placement of electrical sockets next to sinks in kitchens. However, if you have an earth leakage circuit breaker on your consumer unit, is it OK to have them fitted really close because it would be impossible to electocute yourself even if you wanted too. Does anyone have a definative answer?

Hi. regs say no particular distance except that they must be 'suitable for their environment'. ie IP rated, also if not suitable for splashing as in standard domestic socket then should be at least 300mm from edge of sink/drainer. {From GN's & On-site guide}.
RCD's [elcb's] are not proof against electrocution!!! they are only a help, & unless regularly test tripped they do stick 'on', further they will not trip at all if you manage to connect yourself to Live & Neutral!
