Double Light Switch on/off Position Question

We have just wired a new 1 way, 2 gang, switch plate, which works, but for one side the 'on' position is up, and for the other it's down, which looks odd and is impractical. Is this a problem with the new switch itself, or something we've done wrong?

I can't say I have heard of a 2 gang 1 way switch.
Are you sure you have not got a 2 gang 2 way switch?
Said switch is readily available and it would account for your "problem"

I will assume you do have a 2 gang 2 way switch it will have markings on the back which are either
C L1 L2
L1 L2 L3
Com One way 2 way

It matters not which you have. But you should make sure you have used the same identified terminals on each switch, so for the sake of argument C and L1 on each switch.

Unless of course you are using one switch as 2 way, say landing light, in which case, go upstairs and turn the light off from upstairs, then both down stairs switches will be the same.

SOLVED: swapped one wire from L1 to L2 (which i hadnt used originally, because this switch is being used as a one-way (ie is the only switch controlling this light). But that worked.
