Hi i have taken down an old light in the ceiling and have a long cable hanging .
There are 3 wires coming out of it 1 brown live 1blue N
and one green/ yellow earth why so few
Is this similar to a cable you would have in a lamp ?
I was thinking that maybe there is a junction box above the ceiling or a ceiling rose of sorts .can i still attach a new light to these and how
Thankyou karen

It depends on how it has been wired in the first place as to why you only have one cable, it could be one of four reasons.
1) It is a "slave" light fitting. (Another light comes on at the same time)
2) Your "loop in" cables are at the switch
3) As you said, a junction box in the ceiling
4) Something else

Which ever it is you can still connect it to your new light fitting as you described.
Brown to live terminal
Blue to neutral terminal
Gn/yell to earth terminal
