Hi. I'd be grateful for any thoughts on this. A friend of mine has a second home, which is fairly isolated. The only heating is storage heaters, on economy 7. The control dials are manual, so can only be set when there, and the house is a couple of hours drive. He asked me if he could connect the heater through a smart socket so that he could remotely turn it on and off when weather is warmer or colder, although it won't change the operating temperature. My thinking is as the heaters are pretty muck 3kW, there may be a large surge as there are potentially three switching on at the same time, but I'm really guessing. Thanks for any advice.

No he can not connect the storage heaters to a smart socket.

Several reasons why.
Most (Not all) smart sockets can not switch 13A safely
The socket would not work as economy 7 would not be live
As often with smart products the hardware required often costs more than any financial gain.
