So I have found a 5hp electric motor i want to run off a battery. The motor is 12v and has a output power of 300W.
Would this work of a 56v 10Ah battery?
Any help would be amazing

You have answered your own question.

Technically it would work, for about 2 seconds, the motor would turn very very fast, burn out, and emit quantities of acrid smoke.

Have you ever changed a lamp in your car? what voltage was the lamp? (It was 12v) What voltage is the car battery? (12-13v) All works well.

What ever device you are operating must be on the correct (same) voltage as what is supplying it.

It is possible to change the battery output voltage, but the equipment to do it would be cost prohibitive.

An acknowledgement that you have read this post is always appreciated.

1 horse power is around 750 watt, so 5 horse power = 3750 watt not 300 watt.

A human body is around 250 watt output, and is the limit of assistance which is used with e-bikes. The mobility scooter typically 350 watt.

Check your post, seems some errors.
