Grid switch that controls fan but there is only L in and L out

I have a similar question. I have a grid switch that controls a fan. There is only L in and L out. I bought a DP grid swtich that includes a neon indicator and of course the neon does not light when the fan is turned on.
Could I join L1 to N1 and L2 to N2 so that current flows through N1 to N2 when I turn the fan on?
Or is this too simplistic???
THanks

It will not work.
In order for anything to work you need a live (or switched live) AND neutral.
You have not mentioned if there is a neutral at the switch. (A Single Pole switch does NOT require a neutral.)

I often wonder, does the OP ever pop back to see if they have a reply?
