when we moved into our home - the living room had been rewired - wires on outside of wall with plastic piping to cover. Now we want to do some updates and wonder what is the easiest way to bury the wires into the wall - does this involve an electrician or a plasterer or both?

First of all you have to ask yourself do you weant to put up with the mess?

The best way to tackle this would but to employ the services of a qualified electrician who would chase the cables into the wall, then either use metal capping or conduit for mechanical protection. Then you will require someone to plaster over said work, job done.

Make sure you are given a test certificate for any electrical work.

I would say your looking at a big job. You will more than likely need a part p registered sparky to do the electrical work.

The amount of work will depend on the type of wall. If its proper plaster it would need to be chased for the cables to run in. If its plasterboard, its slightly easier, although both would require repair afterwards.

Might be easier to have the room re-sheeted over the top of the existing cabling, although you would lose a small amount of the room doing so.
