Hi
All my lights have blown, typically I went as far as checking fuses etc and all seems to be ok. As a complete novice is there any other things I should check before calling in a sparky?
Thanks

Hi,
When you say all your lights, do you mean up and down? If the fuse/MCB has not tripped then it could be an old loose wire on the loop, in the rose, that has either come loose as I said or has been loose for ages and finally burnt out from being loose. This situation would normally occur at the beginning of the "loop in" to the lights, as no power is reaching the lights, so if your up to it and have a good torch or wait till day light, take each fitting off in turn and make sure there are no loose or burnt out wires. Ensure that the FUSE/MCB for the lights is removed or turned off and even then I would get a circuit tester as I've seen lights connected from socket outlets. Test first before touching.....
If no joy, call a sparkey
