I was thinking about fitting a imersion heater as backup. Can they be wired into a socket circuit or do they need there own separate feed?

Not normal but up to 3Kw could be supplied from ring main. As a back-up OK but not really if normal use although nothing really says no.

hi,
3 kW fixed load should normally go on own 16A circuit, as recommended in regs.
