I have four ceiling spot lights, and two internal cupboard spotlights. On the ceiling, three of the four aren't working. I tried replacing the bulbs but still the three wont work. The two in the cupboards also wont work even with new bulbs, but one ceiling spotlight is working. Can't understand why new bulbs wont fix the problem. Any suggestions?

Not really enough information. Spot lights come in basically two types. SELV = Separated extra low voltage and have transformers and LV low voltage which run on 230 volt commonly with GU10 fitting. Note Low voltage is 50 to 1000 volt below 50 is Extra Low. You would need to say what type, and how they are switched to even give us a chance. And even then unlikely we could do anything better than tell you to get an electrician.

If all the lights came on with the same switch before, then there is a bad connection from the working one to the next one on the circuit.

The lights are 12volt 50 watt. If there is a transformer will that be in the ceiling? This is a top floor flat with no access to the loft space. How do I trace the connection from the lighted bulb to the other three (they run in a straight line down the centre of the ceiling.

The socket that the 12 volt lights plug into often become faulty they carry a lot of current 4 amp. Of course you could have other faults it is common to have a transformer for each lamp these can go faulty. Often they can be reached through the hole for lamp and will normally fit through the hole for maintainance. Without test gear it could take ages to find the faults may be better to get an electrician in.
