I have just replaced my kitchen lights, qty 2 of! one works the other one does not! One side (the one that works) has red and black wires and a mixture of both the other side only has 3 wires coming from the ceiling x1 red x1 black and another wire which I assume is the earth. The light fittings only have 1 block with 4 connections x1 L x1 E x1 N and a Loop. Am I doing this wrong????

Firstly your circuit is called the loop in method.
You have one light with both in-coming supply from another fitting on the circuit (and wires for the switch) and an out going supply to the next light.
So there should be 3 reds 3 blacks and 3 earths at one fitting.

Normallly all the reds should be connected together in it's own connector block. one's an in-coming live, one's an out going live and the others to the switch (known as the switch wire).

But as you only have one set of cables at the second light you need to identify the in-coming live from the out going live and the switch wire.
In-coming live is connected together with switch wire in own termination block.

Then you have two blacks that are in-coming and out going neutrals that should be connected to blue side of light on neutral side.

The third black is also a switch wire and should have a red tag or sleeve on it, to identify it. That is connected to brown side of light on the live side, with the remaining out going Red (live) This will supply the live feed to second light only when switch is in closed (on) position.

All earths together should all have green and yellow sleeving on sometimes left bare but not good practise.

Then second light in this case has in-coming Red (live), Black (Neutral) and an Earth. This will not have a switch wire as it is opperated by cables at other light. So Black to Neutral, Red to Live and earth to earth.
