I have an old fashioned bathroom light cum shaver point. I don't want to replace it, I just want to get rid of it - what do I need to do with the cables after disconnection. Do I tape them together or put them separately in a connector box?

it is probably fed from main light looped in fitting, , if so best to get it disconnected there then totally safe and can be cut off flush at wall, but as this is bathroom wiring needs to be done by Part p leckie.
Don't tape together as will go bang!
If you put them in a connector block and bury them then later on some one may not know the wire is there and screw /nail through it!

Thanks for that - it's actually in a cloakroom rather than a bathroom so does Part P still apply? If I do block it - does each wire get blocked separately. I can basically hide the existing cabling within a removable boxed-in area well out of harm's way and where no-one in future will be able to get at it.

If no bath /shower then not applicable.
yes keep wires in seperate terms.
If you have room then the correct way would be to use a small round junction box behind boxing should be fine,
