I am about to replace my old fencing. the fence posts are rotten and have snapped off at the base. The remainder of the rotten wood is now stuck in the holes I need to excavate to replace with new posts. Ithe fence is in a yard so I can not dig them out. Do you have any tips as to the best tools to use to break up the rotten wood in the existing holes so that i can remove it for replacement.

The best tip we can give you here is to change the position of the posts so you can simply put in new ones. Its a huge job breaking up or removing old fence post supports so its easier to put a half panel in at one end so you can then dig new holes in between the old ones which can then stay there.
