Cutting through arris rail

Hi all,

I need to take out a section of fence, built with feather edge boards nailed to an arris rail. Any ideas on how to do this? There doesn't look to be enough slack on the rails to work them out, so I am guessing I need to cut them and then join them afterwards.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Or any suggestions on how to re-join them afterwards? I was just going to splint it with a piece of wood top and bottom.

Of course - there is an alternative - does anyone know if I can get a mini digger down a flight of steps? And more importantly - get it back up again afterwards??

Thanks in advance!

David.

dave876,
Cut the arris rail next to the post, refit using triangular repair brackets.
Digger and steps - not recommended unless you know what you are doing.

If you haven't got repair brackets then builder's strapping works - just cut one side and move the whole bay out.
