Will dark stain cover a reddish brown fence?

Hi,
Hope in the right forum! I'm moving house next month, and the garden fence is stained a reddish brown colour, but it is fading and needs smartening up. I'd like to stain it a dark brown - will a dark brown stain cover the faded reddish brown? Also, can anyone recommend a brand for the stain?
