Replacement of flat garage roof

The flat roof to my garage has blistered and is now also leaking down the wall to the house which the garage adjoins. I have had a contractor take a look and he has proposed using bitumen felt for the covering and lead for the flashing. Are these the best/ most advisable materials to use, or are there any other alternatives as the quote that I have received seems rather pricey?

Dani B,
There are other materials available eg rubber and GRP but these are likely to be even more expensive.
Suggest you get your contractor to use polyester reinforced felt - check the wrapping to ensure its not the cheap hessian stuff.
