Garage roof 32x10 feet, flat, covering is pitch impregnated hessian hot laid on chipboard with grano chip finish. It's past its sell by date leaks like a seive.

Repair procedure: Strip stones off melt on hot lay felt as it goes on spread stones back on topping up stones as necessary. Can anyone see any fault in doing this.
Thanks in anticipation.

Yes totally!

You say it leaks, then you say it's on Chipboard.

Chipboard absorbs water like a sponge - so you need to replace it.

Strip all roof off back to joists.

Insulate as desired / required. Lay 18mm OSB3 board (You could use WBP ply but that's much more expensive and unnecessary).

If you want to you can use felt - but why?

It lasts 10-15 years at a push and then you're doing it again.

If you want to DIY - then get Firestone and cover it in that - should last 15 - 30 years if done well, and won't cost too much more than felt.
