Polycarbonate roof for garage conversion

I have a 5x3m concrete garage that I'm looking to convert to a home office. The roof is currently corrugated aluminium which suffers really badly from condensation. Wooden facias are also rotten. I am thinking about using clear polycarbonate, which will give some light without having to put in an extra window.
Firstly do people think this is a good idea?
Secondly, I found a site online where I can buy 6m lengths. I'll probably need about 4 or 5 to cover the width. The current roof is supported on four metal cross pieces bolted to the concrete sides. So I'm thinking I'll need to put a wooden framework on top of that and fix the PC to that. What would be the minimum distance between needed between the cross bars do you think?
Thanks
Phil
