Wooden Floorboards in bathrooms?

Hi,
I have a new property with a disgusting carpet in the large bathroom. There are decent floorboards underneath this. I would love to expose this and have that as my floor but then this would obviously mean a risk of water leeking onto the kitchen below. Is it possible to have wooden floors in bathrooms and if so how is it done?
I have had vinyl and amtico priced and that was 420 and 780 respectively which to me is far too high so any suggestions would be very welcome.
Cheers
