hi,
not an expert at flooring but have laid quite a few rooms in my own house
and as you can see i too am having trouble

our fire place was square so i laid one long strip across the room infront of the fire which gave a nice finish then worked backwards into the recesses and then infront of the fire . plus because you've only just started you've got more patience for the fiddly bits.

hope this helps don't know if it's the right way but thats how i'd do it.

Hi magoo.

It would be best to start with a straight wall at the other end of the room. When you reach the fireplace, are you able to lift it to put the laminate underneath? If so, that would save you messing around with the beading on the curved fireplace to cover the expansion gap.
Hope it helps
