Laminate flooring underlay

by eday47 » Mon May 24, 2010 4:18 pm

Hi Everyone,

I was hoping someone may have experience that would help me.

I am replacing a carpet in a bedroom with Laminate flooring and am worried about noise coming through from the room below. When we had carpet the noise transfer from the room below was quite apparent. So i'm a bit concerned that when i put laminate down it will be even worse.

I've spent quite a bit of time looking around the net but can find the answer. I'm not sure wheatear to use acoustic underlay (rubber stuff) or fibreboard. All the acoustic underlay states its good for impact noise which isn't my problem its noise transfer from below.

From my research i'm tending towards fibre board because rubber will deaden impact sound but not necessarily absorb noise from the room below.

Has anyone tried both? I don’t really want to rip the floor up to fill it with insulation.

Thanks and hope this makes sense.

I've used fibreboard with no problems.
