Flood damage to flooring by the recent floods!

I've just bought a bungalow that has been flood damaged by the recent floods just before we were due to move in.
It was only an inch or so but enough to have wrecked the carpets throughout which have now been removed & binned.
Does anyone know the best type of flooring we could use to minimize the damaged if it occurred again?
Maybe slate tiles?
We would have liked some sort of laminate/wood flooring in some rooms but I don't think it would survive if it happened again.
