I have carpet in my lounge/dining room which is rotting wherever anything is left on it too long, I assume this is due to damp. I want to replace the carpet with wood flooring. What do I need to do to the floor before this? And will the wood be better than carpet???

Hi, I am not a professional so please don't take my word as gospel. If there's damp coming through your flooring then you'll need to see where it's coming from as it sounds quite serious to me. You'll just need to make sure it's not serious damp as it will ruin your new floor covering regardless. Laminate flooring would be ok to fit because you just need to put down a waterproof sheet to protect the new flooring. I have concrete floor in my flat & put a waterproof sheet down & attached it to the floor with strong adhesive tape, I then put down the insulation/underlay & attached it to the floor with adhesive tape & then fitted the laminate flooring over the top. Obviously make sure you read the instructions carefully when fitting the flooring & you need to make sure the existing floor you have is ok to take laminate flooring. If your flooring is concrete then it would be fine!
