Wrong Underlay Laid Under Laminate Flooring now Floor Creaking and Moving

by hutswa » Wed Jun 03, 2015 12:35 am

Hi,
We recently replaced the carpet in our living room with expensive top quality laminate flooring. At the time we wrongly decided to leave the old carpet underlay down instead of changing it. Our living room is a main through route from the back door throughout the whole house.

To create a smooth finish we fitted new skirts after laying the laminate and boxed in pipeworks also over the top of the laminate.

We have noticed that the floor (6 months after fittig) has become creaky in heavy wear parts and the flooring moves on the joints at this point too.

We have a rug over part of the flooring and this section seems fine.

Is there any remedy without having to take all the flooring up as we dont want to have to take all the skirts and boxing in back out and dont really want any more rugs.

Was just wondering whether if we removed one strip of the flooring from a doorway (no skirt issue then) we could just pull the underlay from underneath or at least just from the heavy traffic area? Or if its possible to take the floor up without having to remove the skirts?

Any ideas would be most useful!

Thanks
