Leveling and Painting Rough old Floor Tiles

by Carsonion » Sat Sep 24, 2016 8:59 am

Hi All,

I have just pushed a wall out to extend my bedroom and now need to address the issue of mismatched flooring where the wall used to be.

The majority of the floor is these faux-distressed, very uneven, semi porous floor tiles and then where the wall and wardrobes were the old composite marble floor is visible underneath.

I would like a painted concrete floor effect.

Initially I was planning to use self leveling compound and then paint that, but apparently most SLC is not praintable.

Any ideas on either:

What kind of leveling substance I can buy/make that can be painted with regular floor paint.

Or

What kind of stain or paint or sealant I can use on regular SLC.

OR

Any completely new ideas on what I can do to achieve the painted concrete look.

By the way, I live in Cyprus so unfortunately I haven't got access to a great range of fancy products.

Many thanks in advance.
