Advise on Effective Vacuum Cleaner for Hardwood Floor

My mom needs an effective hardwood floor cleaner. Please advise that should it be a usual vacuum cleaner or the robotic vacuum cleaner. She is fifty plus, hard to clean the floor by a manual mop.
