Best Methods of Treating Terracotta Floor Tiles

Our porch has a terracotta tiled floor. It had been painted with tile paint but we were unhappy with the finish so I removed it.
Having washed and rinsed the floor and allowed it to dry, I followed advice to treat it with two coats of boiled linseed oil. This produced a very nice lustre finish but after four weeks it is still 'tacky' making it unpleasant to walk upon and attracting grime, ruining the effect.
How can I best proceed from here?
Can I remove the oil with white spirit?
Thank you for any advice
