Covering Stair Treads With Sheet Vinyl

I currently have bare stairs and little money to cover them. I was going to paint them but realistically, with 4 kids, drying time and doing the number of coats we need is going to take forever and is pretty impractical with the kids constantly going up and down.
They are bullnose stairs and we have a stair lift to deal with so installing new stair treads over the top would be difficult. I was thinking at least we could easily cut sheet vinyl to go around it.
Would it be feasible to cover the treads in vinyl and wallpaper the risers (I love this look) and if so what would I need to consider
