Chipboard Smell From New Flooring Laid 5 Months ago

Hi,
Looking for some advice - we got new flooring put down made of chipboard & a carpet over the top, 5 months ago.
There's been a persistant 'woody' smell since, we removed the carpet & discovered it was the chipboard smell. Put varnish over it but can still smell it!
Do you know whether putting down vinyl instead of carpet would seal in the smell?
