Stone Slab Basement Floor but What to put on it?

Hi
I have a small 120 year old house that has a basement (about 8 x 4 meters). The basement has stone slabs on the floor but there's gaps between the joints and un-evenness. The height is only about 6 " 7 from floor too ceiling.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows what is best to seal the floor?
I was hoping to use cement and then put a rubber based sealant on over the cement to help tank it.
I've heard if I use concrete it will loose a few inches.
Any thoughts?
