is it better to lay laminate flooring parallel with the windows or at 90 degrees to them which way do you see the joints less :?

The answer is at right angles same same ceiling paper if you want to avoid light from the windows highlighting the joins. Having said that the overiding consideration is the way the floorboards (if that's what you have) run. Lay the laminate at 90 degs to the floorboards always.
Use a quality underlay too. The cheap polythene (or whatever) stuff isn't worth having and the air bubbles inside it contribute significantly (nice little echo chambers) to the click clack sound when you walk on it.
