Moving joist in bathroom floor rubbing on cables?

by alewater » Tue Jan 19, 2021 11:31 pm

I’ve changed the light fitting below my bathroom, the cables weren’t long enough so I lifted a floorboard and done what I needed to do.

A while back we skimmed the hallway ceiling and I remember the plastered finding a rusty screw that poked through each time someone visited the bathroom so I thought I’d have a look around.

What I’ve found is that one of the joists moves when you walk into the bathroom and it’s rubbing on some cables as well.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Hi alewater
It looks like the joist should be resting on the flange of an angle beam. Fit a packing piece under the end of the joist, if this stops the movement glue it in place
.

Your suggestion worked a treat. I used two L brackets I had in the shed, the first one slid under pretty easily, the second one needed a few wacks with the hammer which made it nice and secure.

After this I sprayed a little expanding foam adhesive around it.

Thanks again.
