line drainage channel

I'm planning to lay around 10m of plastic channel line drainage (the kind that comes in 1m lengths with grating on top) around two walls of a house. It's an old house, with soil abutting straight onto the walls. If I dig a shallow trench to lay the channel in, what's the best way to keep it in position? Ie, should I bed it into concrete/cement or lay it directly onto the earth of the trench; and should I be laying it flush against the wall or laying a few inches of concrete/cement between the wall and the channel?
