Gas pipe in footings

Hi..
Whilst digging my footings for my extension I discovered that my Yellow Gas pipe runs across one of my trenches. Can you advise what protection is needed for the pipe as the trench fill foundations will cover it.

Yes you could use pipe insulation the same stuff you use to protect from frost,

Thanks for your reply..The gas man wanted me to divert the pipe at a cost of £700-£1000!!! Don't think so.

Hi, would recommend something like a short length of split 4" soil pipe with the gas pipe running central. To enable the gas pipe to be central of the soil pipe, use some polystyrene for some pipe support. This will give a 2" gap around the pipe after the foundation pour & aid easy replacement at a latter date.
