Hi, I'm helping my brother fit a new floor safe. Doing ourselves as not sure who you can trust with that info.
He has a new build house. Once he decided on a location we started to chisel out the hole in the slab. About four or five inces down we ran into a wire mesh. The safe is about a foot deep so would need to locally cut out the mesh and also possibly a block if we find that the slab is on a block and beam floor. Not sure if locally removing the mesh will weaken the floor or not! The hole for the safe needs to be about a foot square. Any advise from anyone on whether this is a good idea or not?

Probably the most important consideration, if is is a block and beam floor, is that you cut out a block not cut through a beam. Cutting through the mesh locally should have no effect on the floor strength.

Hi Stoney. Thanks for the reply. I had the same thought in the beam. Will take slowly until we run into the next layer. Hopefully that will be the vapour barrier or insulation before the block and beam after which we can carve through slowly to see what section we are on. Any idea on how thick the slab can get?
