I am just about to replace a large area of decking that was all made of untreated softwood (not by me) and it lasted less than 10 years. I have been patching it up for the last 4 but now has gone too far. It has also cost a fortune to try and treat with preserver every year too. In short, I would only use proper pressure treated wood outside.

Hi Del,

You can use softwood but do purchase treated wood as rayz-x said. Don't make the mistake of being sold up the swanny by some sales man who insists you use hard would, unless you have a hard wallet.
