Hi there,

I have a small garden wall that measures 44cm high which has partially falling down. Not only do I want to repair this but I also want to change the direction of the wall. At present there is a patio where the new wall will go. My question is do I need a foundation for this wall or can I lay directly on to the patio slabs?

I'm also looking to reuse the old bricks for the new wall. When cleaning the old bricks do I need to ensure the frog is also free from old cement before using them?

Any advice on the above would be much appreciated.

Hi ozziepedro,
If the slabs are laid on a continuous concrete bed you could probably get away with building directly on them provided you will not be on the edge of the slabs.
If they are dot and dabbed you should lift them and put in a foundation.
There is no need to clean out the frogs but make sure bricks are lightly damped when you lay them.
