trees and foundations

Hi, I am considering making a planning application to build a house on a site with several mature trees. Quite apart from whether the trees are protected or not, I'd want to preserve them at all costs. I think looking to put conventional strip foundations in, however, wouldn't work at all, and wondered can anyone advise about other types of 'selective' foundations (piling, for example) that might work? And if so, whether a different technology might be prohibitively expensive? And advise at all would be gratefully received.
