Hi, I have an old gas fire in dining room that I want to dispose of. Problem is there is no iso valve. Can I turn off gas, remove fire and install a valve and cap off, I am a mechanical engineer and very competant. Corgi man wants £80 to do it (15 minute job). If I can do it myself what are the best fittings to use, Compression/Solder ring ?

Hi,
Only a corgi should do this, but,as you say your competant (and thats what HSE say) Gas off and compression stop end IF its accessable. But you need to test before and after, so back to a corgi me thinks.
