How much for boiler replacement?

My boiler is about knackered. What should I expect to pay to have it replaced? I know absolutely nothing about them and don't want to get ripped off.
What are the pros and cons of a combi boiler, will my power shower still work with one, a freind has suggested it will not.

Thanks

Hi,

Your boiler will have to be a condensor.
System or Combi is up to you.
DHW flow rate is the main factor to look at when choosing.
Boilers range from say £500 to £ 1500
The correctly sized boiler will run a shower

How is your mains pressure? If it's good then a combi could be an option. It all depends on your lifestyle patterns and you home.

Combis are generally good for houses up to 3 bedrooms with one bathroom and only 1 shower. Anything over this and you will be looking at either a massive and expensive combi like a worcester floor standing 440 or a system boiler with a tank and all the associated things.

Is the powershower electric or pumped from a tank? If it's electric it will work as it wont be connected to the combi and will only have a cold supply inlet. If it is from a tank and pumped via a purpose built pump then it is against regs to pump mains water so you wouldn't be able to have the pump connected up to the combi as the water coming out of it is mains pressured.

regards,

AH.

power shower will not work and a combi boiler will cost about £1800 - £2400 plus vat with taking out old cylinder and tanks
also you may need a bigger gas supply and themostatic rad valves and a room stat

It depends where you live doesn't it as to which price you pay? But that very question shouldn't exist, or should it?

My mate in Newcastle consistently charges £200-300 less than I do in Leeds.

If it was me, I'd have the guy travelling from Newcaslte every day!

Does anyone think our rates should be standardised? Is that possible?
