Hi guys,
Have you ever hit a gas valve with a hammer to make it work?
by that very question you can guess I have, very recently! But will it last?
Oh yeah, i signed up for GSR two weeks ago and nothing... I haven't seen/heard/read one ad yet, but my money is in their account. I haven't even got a card through with my smiley little face on it yet...
AH.

No I haven't, whenever there's a fault with a gas valve I replace it. As you cannot guarantee the gas valve is working properly after being hit with a hammer. What if it fails to close ?
At the end of the day you're putting your name as being the last one there

fair dos, I like your style htg, very conscientious.
It's broken again anyway so I'm just going to replace it. Not done one on this boiler before, but it looks just as straight forward as usual.

Pumps get the hammer treatment, try my very best not to touch pump valves (unless gate valves) as they're bound to leak.
What's happening with it ? if a tap with a hammer fixes it - even if only for a short while, then it may just be the solenoid, replacements are cheaper than the whole valve (in some cases) and quicker to change.

Ahh - percussive maintenance. Wonderful invention!

It was working for a couple of hours after the aforementioned "percussive maintenance" and I return a day later for it to be back at fault code. I am getting negative pull on the burner pressure before fault code and a quick tap opens the valve. I'm concerned, as said earlier, that one time the valve will not close...
maybe look into changing the solenoid instead of the entire valve then?

I would, if you can buy the solenoid seperately great, if not I would still be tempted to try the solenoid off a new valve before replacing the whole gas valve.
