Replacing the Gas Box Cover (not recessed)

Hi All,

Is this a DIY job?

Looking in the box it looks fairlly straightforward, but the metal plate that is in the existing box seems to integrate with the pipework in a couple of places.

Any links for replacing?

Cheers.

The meter needs to be protected from the weather and vandalism - contact your gas supplier, they should repair the box free of charge.

If it needs replacing, the meter and bracket will probably need removing and refitting - not a DIY job.

The meterbox is the property of the end user and is responsible for its maintenance. You say its a surface mounted box, as long as the backplate is ok - just buy new box and replace cover- 4 push in plastic jobbies.

How can you protect from vandalism???

The meter box will normally be maintained by Transco, United Utilities etc , I have informed many customers to contact their supplier, they have raised the job for the gas transporter and they've had their's repaired or replaced free of charge - no hassle.

The meter box protects the meter and components, from weather and vandalism !!

Well, if someone has a mind to vandalise it ..............they will.
How can a bit of a box stop that?

Hi All,

Just a quick update. Had a person from the utility company have a look and he advised that as the backplate is in good condition just replace the cover, or paint it!

Trouble is he advised that the box is a Mk1 which aren't readily available.

What paint would I use?

Cheers.

Well it's the same if someone wants to break in to, or pinch your car, if they want to ...........they will

Leave your car unlocked if you want - but i'll keep locking mine.

All we can do is try our best to prevent - not eliminate. That's what the meter box is for, protection of the meter from the weather and vandalism, kids turning off gas supply etc etc.

Out of sight .... and all that.

'How can you protect from vandalism???' Common sense really.

Let us know how you get on FTF.
