Programmer Thermostat fitting

I have an old combi boiler which I currently control simply by a time switch on the power supply.
I want to replace this with a radio programmer/thermostat.
I have found instructions on a model which includes three terminals:
neutral, live and output (call for heat).
Am I right in thinking that the neutral would connect to the earth and it wouldn't matter which way round the other two were - I only want to switch the power on/off?
Thanks

I've realised that what I'm seeking is a remote thermostatically controlled on/off to the power supply and therefore not really for this section.
I've rephrased my question under Electrics.
