There is a very slight gas leak somewhere in about a 3 foot length of underfloor (solid) gas supply pipe in my hall. Is it legal to repair what is most likely just a pin sized hole with say a blob of solder? Or what would be legal repair? Thanks derek belton

First thing first, if you can smell gas, turn the emergency control valve by the side of your gas meter to the off position. Open windows and doors and don't use any electrical switches and extinguish any naked flames.
Alternatively, call the Gas Emergency Services on 0800 111 999 and tell them you can smell gas. They will arrive within 2 hours and make your installation safe.
The only legal gas repair is for you to call a GasSafe registered engineer and to let them do the work.

Thanks to plastic_man77 for his reply. The leak has now been repaired ,legally, by a gas safe registered man. It turned out to be in a short length of lead piping fitted to the consumer side of the meter. (The leak was of the order of 1/2 mb per 2 minutes.) Thanks again. Derek Belton
