[color=red]When you have a gas fire fitted, does the actual fitter have to be Corgi approved, or just the firm that's employing him? a friend had this problem, the fitter wasn't approve, but the firm were, and this is a company that does a lot of work for various councils, is this right?

No, the Gas Fitter has to be CORGI registered himself.
If the company pays for his registration and training then his CORGI ID card will state that he can only carry out gas work for that company.
If he has his own CORGI registration then he pays all costs himself, but can work on gas for any company, home owners and private landlords etc.
If a company is CORGI registered and allowing un-registered fitters to work on gas then this is illegal - and they should be reported.
