Do I need to get any kind of certification?

Hello,

We are renovating our house and part of the renovation involved taking down a wall in the kitchen. Our boiler was hung on this wall. One of our neighbours is a CORGI registered gasman and so he came round and took it down with me. This was some time ago.

This saturday just gone he came back round to re-install the boiler. It has changed position but only by rotating it by 90 degrees onto the adjacent wall. It still uses the same flue hole. Everything went fine and we now have some heating once again.

He is not self-employed, he works for a firm of heating engineers but does these jobs for neighbours at weekends. I don't know if this makes a difference. My question is do I need to have any kind of certification or anything?

Obviously I have the paperwork for when the boiler was first installed but I wasn't sure if I need any additional documents or anything.

Thanks

If he is CORGI registered through the firm he works for, then he may not be CORGI registered to carry out private jobs. Normally they can do the installation cheaper for you, as they don't have the overheads. If this is the case most people know they wont get the certificate or the manufacturers warranty, but what they saved on installation costs makes up for this.

Ask him, if he is CORGI registered, and ask for the certificate. He may be abale to get a friends to provide the certification for you.

Thanks.

We were discussing how his firm operates and I know he has his own CORGI registration and I think he just works under the umbrella of the firm.

To be honest we were so delighted when everything was up and running (it's been a long winter with no heating) I completely forgot to ask about certification. I thought I'd ask the question here before going round and bothering him about it.

So, clearly there is some paperwork that I need.

Cheers.

and they'd have problems when they come to sell because they can't provide the certificate.

"Ask him, if he is CORGI registered, and ask for the certificate. He may be abale to get a friends to provide the certification for you."

I think the friend might just be breaking the law if he did so and could well find the kennel club kicking him out as and when it came out.

Anyway it seems to be moot as the OP says he guy has an individual CORGI registration.
